A year since my last posting...

Whoa, it's been a year since my last posting. Who uses Xanga anymore? Everyone's made the exodus to Facebook. So nobody will be reading this... I feel like Will Smith in "I am Legend." Is anybody out there!?

It’s been a couple months since we last updated, but things have been good…

(so many of you have neglected your xanga sites! keep us posted!)

Enjoyed the IHOP experience so much that we went back again in March for another conference. If you’ve never experienced IHOP, it’s a MUST in this lifetime (www.ihop.org) (No, it's not the pancake place). Lord really blessed us this trip. Of course, while in KC, you can’t miss out on KC BBQ. Check out KC Masterpiece’s. BBQ is like religion out in KC. I love meat. Meat makes me happy. Definately try the ribs!

Chicago only has two seasons: Winter and construction. It’s weird… it’s winter and snowing in April, and all of a sudden, turns 80 degrees. Craziness. Just saw a deer right outside my office window the other day.

So close to where I was; grabbed my camera and shot it.

Our church recently sponsored a basketball tournament. 18 teams played, and of course, the African American team wins. Golden yellow men can’t jump. (My dad wasn't part of the team; he just awarded the trophy)

Hyekyung and I were talking recently and for the first time, got to kinda missing Korea; the people, our church...sigh. But it's been good to have a steady flow of friends come through to keep us up to date on what's been going on and to get connected again.

Recently found out one of my close friends from Korea, Bell, became a professional mixed martial arts fighter in Japan. One of the most interesting guys I ever met. African (from the Ivory Coast; speaks French), who grew up in Japan (speaks perfect Japanese), and we met up at the Language Academy in Korea. Got to know each other through Taekwondo. Quick note: Bell, do you still remember when I knocked you out?

Odometer in car just reached 2007 miles… I’ve had it over a year, but only drove it for 2007 miles. I rarely drive it, except to go to work. Usually, I’ll drive my wife’s car and beat on it (little does she know! Hehehe).

Celebrated Easter 2007. Great to celebrate communion and baptism. Reminder of God's amazing love for us.

Hyekyung’s been busy with school and work. She’s studying to get her administrator’s certificate in early childhood education. Hoping to either open or work at a preschool some day.

Just celebrated Mothers’ Day. Two things my mom LOVES: Botanical Gardens and Old Country Buffet. We took her to BG, but not OCB.

IHOP "Signs and Wonders" Conference...

Hyekyung and I just got back from a conference in Kansas City sponsored by the "International House of Prayer" (www.ihop.org). Pretty amazing place and we (as well as two of the deacons who came with us) were blown away by the whole experience. Basically, the main focus of their ministry consists of a 24 hour prayer and worship auditorium where people can come and pray any time of the day or night, 365 days a year. They always have a worship team on the stage that continuously leads songs or prayers. Through the years, I've attended a lot of conferences, but never one that was so immersed in prayer and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sure, other such meetings may have been more immaculately produced or professionally done, but God was so real and so present in this place. I was challenged in my own personal passion for Jesus and how much it has waned, especially in the past year. I love what Mike Bickle, Lead Pastor at IHOP, states in his book, "Passion for Jesus": "Our inadequate idease about the personhood of God result in failure to develop deep affection for Jesus and to obey Him with fearless abandonment..." (p. 31).

My new favorite worship leader (besides the ones at Canaan ) is Misty Edwards. Talk about annointed worship. Her music really spoke to me. Although simple and easy to sing, there's a lot of depth to the music that IHOP produces. It's obvious that the lyrics of the songs were ignited in the embers of passionate prayer. Misty is pretty intense. I bought one of her CDs and we play it at home all the time.

I always take pics of cars I rent...this time, I rented a PT Cruiser, which was pretty cool. Felt like a 1930's gangter. Originally got a red one, but something was wrong with it and had to settle for blue. KC is a small town with not much to see. Tried to get some KC BBQ, but it was an hour wait. Since there were no Korean resturants close by, we had to settle for Chinese Buffet.

A sad day in our history. The inventor of instant Ramen has passed away, ironically due to heart failure. Thank you, Mr. Ando, for setting the precedent for the advent of Shin Ramen, Jjapaghetti, Neoguri, and Sapporo Ichiban... You will be long remembered for helping us surivive our college years, for every youth group retreat in history, for 7-11's all over Korea, and our wide puffy faces in the mornings after. Thank you for the new uses for eggs and scallions, and for filling our stomachs with pure joy and MSG.

OSAKA (Kyodo) Momofuku Ando, the founder of Nissin Food Products Co. and inventor of instant ramen, died of heart failure Friday evening at a hospital in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, his family said. He was 96.

Born on March 5, 1910, in Taiwan, Ando initially ran clothing companies in Taipei and Osaka while he was a student at Ritsumeikan University. In 1948, he founded the precursor to Nissin and in 1958 unveiled Chicken Ramen, the world's first instant noodle product.

Ando was inspired to develop the instant noodle after coming upon a long line of people on a cold night shortly after World War II. They were waiting to buy freshly made ramen at a black market food stall.

The experience convinced him that "peace will come to the world when the people have enough to eat," according to Nissin.

In 1971, Nissin introduced the Cup Noodle featuring instant ramen in a waterproof plastic foam container. Dubbed the "Ramen King," Ando is credited with expanding Nissin into the No. 1 company in the industry and was well-known for his dedication to his work.

Showcasing his Space Ram noodles, Ando said, "I'm happy I've realized my dream that noodles can go into space."
